Expert opinions on the upcoming runoff election and the decisions of the National Election Authority
Political experts affirmed that the National Elections Authority’s announcement of the final results for the 19 annulled constituencies represents a crucial step in ensuring the transparency of the electoral process and bolstering public confidence. They considered the swift review of appeals and the timely announcement of results to reflect the Authority’s preparedness and its ability to manage the parliamentary elections with high professionalism.
Accountant Mohamed Galal Salah, a political cadre member of the Future of the Nation Party, stated that the electoral commission’s decisions to rerun elections in districts where serious violations occurred confirm its firm commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. He also pointed out that officially announcing the results before the start of campaigning for the runoff election guarantees equal opportunities for all candidates.
He explained that the upcoming runoff election will be more competitive, especially after voters observed the candidates’ performances during the first round. He added that holding elections simultaneously in 19 districts will redraw the electoral map in several governorates, potentially impacting the balance of power in the next parliament.
In the same vein, political expert Mahmoud El-Shenhab emphasized that the current phase is a crucial test for political parties and their ability to communicate effectively with voters. He pointed out that some districts that witnessed a split vote in the first round will see direct competition in the runoff, thus contributing to a clearer electoral landscape.
He added that the upcoming round represents a golden opportunity for candidates to rectify past mistakes and present clearer visions to voters. Meanwhile, the National Elections Authority’s crucial role in managing the process with the same degree of impartiality and efficiency remains the greatest guarantee for the elections to proceed optimally.
