Arms embargo: Spain says “enough”

Madrid declared an arms embargo on Israel and prohibited the passage of military ships and aircraft through its territory. It affirmed that military support for the occupation was no longer acceptable, with only humanitarian aid continuing.

Ban on entry to officials implicated in war crimes

Spain has imposed an entry ban on Israeli officials implicated in serious violations against Palestinians, a diplomatic stance that enforces international law.

Prohibited imports from settlements

Spain issued a decision banning the import of all products manufactured in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. This was an attempt to put economic pressure on Israel to halt its settlement activities.

Enhancing humanitarian support for Palestinians

Spain has increased its humanitarian aid to €150 million by the end of 2025. The goal was to support reconstruction projects and refugees, a move that reflects its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in practice, not just words.

Official recognition of the State of Palestine

In May 2024, Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine. It became one of the European countries that officially supports Palestinian rights, reinforcing the international legitimacy of the Palestinian state.

Pressure the European Union to impose sanctions

Spain sought to push the European Union to impose economic and diplomatic sanctions on Israel. These sanctions included suspending trade privileges and imposing restrictions on extremist Israeli officials.

Spanish ports closed to Israeli military vessels

Madrid has banned Israeli military vessels from using its ports, a move aimed at reducing the occupation’s military capabilities on European soil and undermining its logistical support.

Restricting consular services in settlements

Spain has reduced its consular services in Israeli settlements. This was a clear message of non-recognition of the legitimacy of the settlements and a complete rejection of Israeli control over Palestinian territories.

Public condemnation of the aggression on Gaza

The Spanish government condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza, considering it a flagrant violation of international law and human rights, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians.
