Washington, United States – US Vice President J.De Vance said Sunday that the United States is considering Ukraine’s request for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to support its efforts to repel the Russian military.

Vance added that President Donald Trump will make the “final decision” on whether or not to allow the sale of these missiles.

He pointed out that Washington is reviewing a number of requests submitted by European countries, which may in turn transfer them to Kiev.

Earlier, a press report stated that Washington had agreed to lift restrictions preventing Kiev from using long-range American weapons that could strike deep inside Russia.

The American Wall Street Journal quoted officials as saying that President Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, that he is open to lifting restrictions that prevent Kiev from using long-range American weapons to strike the Russian interior.

But he did not commit to that during a meeting on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, if Trump’s statements indicate a change in policy, they may allow Ukraine to strike more targets inside Russia and at greater distances.

Tomahawk missiles

The range of Tomahawk missiles is about 2,500 kilometers.

Which makes it a weapon capable of targeting distant targets inside Russian territory.

Moscow would certainly consider providing Ukraine with such capabilities an escalation in the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had asked the United States to sell the missiles to European countries that would later send them to Ukraine.

These discussions come in the context of broader tension over the level of Western support for Kiev and calls to enable it to strike at the strategic depth of the opponent.
