Cairo, Egypt – In a move that reflects European concerns about escalating security threats, France, Germany, and Sweden announced the deployment of military forces and special forces to the Danish capital, Copenhagen. This is to bolster its air defenses against drone attacks. This comes ahead of the European Union and European Political Group summits this week.

Sweden: Advanced radars and systems

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson confirmed that his country has deployed units of the armed forces to support Denmark with anti-drone capabilities. He noted that Sweden will provide modern radars to detect threats. However, this will be temporary, coinciding with European summits.

France: Helicopter and anti-aircraft systems

The French Ministry of Defense stated that it had sent 35 soldiers, Fennec helicopters, and advanced systems to counter drones. They consider these threats a “serious threat to European security.”

Germany: Frigate and specialized soldiers

Germany has strengthened its military presence with the arrival of the frigate Hamburg in the port of Copenhagen last weekend. In addition, they have deployed approximately 40 soldiers to carry out missions related to detecting and countering drones.

European concern and Danish alert

This European security move comes ahead of the European Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday. It will focus on defense issues and the situation in Ukraine. It will be followed by a meeting of the European Political Group on Thursday, with broad participation from the continent’s leaders. Denmark has been on high alert since last week after a wave of drones was spotted near major airports and military bases. This disrupted air traffic and caused confusion for thousands of travelers. Consequently, Copenhagen requested direct support from its European partners.
