NEW YORK, United States – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian revealed before leaving New York that his country had reached a conclusion with the Europeans.

Highlights
  • “Unacceptable”
  • “The Trump administration is not serious”
  • Suspension of cooperation with the International Agency

But the American position was different.

Bazshkian’s statement comes hours before UN sanctions on Iran take effect.

“Unacceptable”

Bezchkian described the American requests as unacceptable.

“They asked us to hand them all the enriched uranium in exchange for delaying the resumption of sanctions for 3 months,” he said. This is ridiculous.”

He also stressed that if his country had to “choose between these illogical demands and the Snapback mechanism, it would choose the latter”.

“The Trump administration is not serious”

Bazshkian announced on Friday that his country does not intend to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty even if United Nations sanctions are reimposed on it as expected.

He also added on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that the administration of US President Donald Trump did not show seriousness in the nuclear talks.

Including the negotiations that preceded the Israeli attack on Iran.

Suspension of cooperation with the International Agency

These statements came after a Russian-Chinese effort failed on Friday to postpone the re-imposition of international sanctions on Iran in the 15-member UN Security Council.

This was after only four countries voted in favor of it, paving the way for the “trigger mechanism”.

It also came as Tehran threatened to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, with which it concluded a new agreement in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on September 9.

It is noteworthy that meetings at the highest levels intensified this week, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Especially between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Iranian counterpart.

This was in an effort to reach a settlement on sanctions and conclude a new agreement, but to no avail.

However, Macron confirmed on Wednesday, after his meeting with Zechkian, that “an agreement can still be concluded, but there are only a few hours left for that”.

The European Troika countries (Germany, France, and Britain) are demanding that Tehran grant IAEA inspectors full access to essential nuclear facilities.

It also requires the resumption of negotiations with Washington, as well as the adoption of a mechanism to ensure the security of enriched uranium stockpiles.

While Tehran considers these conditions unfair and putting pressure on it, stressing that its nuclear program is peaceful.
