Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint action within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries. This cooperation aims to serve their development priorities and benefit their people.
Strengthening avenues of joint cooperation
This came during a meeting between the two sides today in Abu Dhabi, where His Highness welcomed the Brazilian President, who is on a working visit to the UAE. He affirmed the UAE’s commitment to developing bilateral relations and expanding them to broader horizons.
The two sides reviewed the progress of UAE-Brazilian cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, development, advanced technology, space, renewable energy, and sustainability. Cooperation also encompassed food security, education, and logistics, thus strengthening sustainable development paths in both countries.
A comprehensive economic partnership with Mercosur
The meeting also addressed the ongoing negotiations between the UAE and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) regarding the establishment of a comprehensive economic partnership, which have reached their final stages. Both sides expressed their hope that this step will open new horizons for constructive economic cooperation between the UAE, Brazil, and the other member states of the bloc.
His Highness the President of the UAE affirmed that the strategic relations between the UAE and Brazil, spanning more than five decades, are witnessing continuous qualitative development. There are promising opportunities for cooperation that both sides seek to capitalize on to achieve their shared interests.
Coordination on regional and international issues
The two sides exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination to support peace and stability in the Middle East and the world. They also stressed the need to strengthen efforts aimed at consolidating international security and peace.
The meeting was attended by a number of sheikhs, ministers, and senior state officials, along with the delegation accompanying the Brazilian president. The delegation had arrived in Abu Dhabi earlier that day, where they were officially received at the Presidential Airport.
