ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday “strongly condemned” Afghan provocations.

He vowed a “strong and effective response” after the border clashes that took place overnight between the two neighbouring countries.

“There will be no compromise on the defense of Pakistan and every provocation will be met with a strong and effective response,” Sharif said in a statement.

To that.. He accused the Afghan Taliban authorities of allowing “terrorist elements” to use their territory.

For its part, Afghanistan announced that it killed 58 Pakistani soldiers in border operations last night.

Closing border points with Afghanistan

This comes as Pakistan closed border points with Afghanistan on Sunday, after the border forces of the two countries exchanged heavy fire overnight.

A security official said that the Torkham border point in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country was closed.

In addition to Shaman Point in Balochistan province in the southwest of the country.

Local media published videos and quoted security sources as saying that Pakistan had taken control of at least 19 Afghan border sites.

It also caused human losses on the Afghan side.

There are no official indications that the fighting that began overnight has ended.

Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsen Naqvi condemned the “unjustified” Afghan attacks targeting civilians.

Naqvi was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the ministry, and published on the “X” website: “Afghan forces opening fire on civilians is a flagrant violation of international laws”.

Earlier this week, Pakistani drones and fighter jets carried out several attacks in Afghanistan.

Including an attack in Kabul targeting militants believed to be behind the escalation of attacks.

Islamabad accuses Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers of supporting or at least harboring militants despite repeated warnings.
