Cairo, Egypt – NATO announced it is strengthening its military presence in the Baltic Sea by deploying an air defense frigate. Additionally, there will be more intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms. This decision comes in response to a series of incidents involving unidentified drones violating Danish airspace in recent days.
The Danish Armed Forces confirmed the sighting of drones near military installations. Copenhagen Airport—the largest in Scandinavia—was temporarily closed after large drones were seen in its airspace. Air traffic was also halted at several other Danish airports.
This coincided with NATO’s recent launch of Operation Eastern Sentinel to bolster its defenses on Europe’s eastern front. This followed allegations that Russian drones had infiltrated Polish airspace. Estonia also accused Russian aircraft of violating its airspace. However, Moscow denied the allegations, asserting that its airspace was within authorized routes.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned during his speech before the UN General Assembly that any aggression against his country would be met with a strong response. He stressed his country’s rejection of allegations of violations of the airspace of Poland and Estonia.
