Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, met on Thursday with Kai Wegener, Mayor of Berlin, as part of his state visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.
During the meeting, which was held at the Berlin Mayor’s office, the two sides discussed friendly relations and various aspects of joint cooperation between the UAE and Germany, as well as opportunities to enhance the exchange of experiences between Emirati cities and Berlin.
Cooperation in development and smart cities
The meeting addressed a number of areas related to urban development, most notably the environment, infrastructure, building and developing smart cities, in addition to promoting green growth, improving quality of life and supporting sustainable development pathways.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the Mayor of Berlin also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between cities in the two countries, contributing to the exchange of expertise and experiences in the fields of urban planning and development, and supporting initiatives aimed at building more sustainable and prosperous cities.
Exploring opportunities for exchanging experiences
The two sides discussed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the various cities of the UAE and the city of Berlin, and benefiting from the exchange of experiences in development issues, in a way that serves common interests and supports efforts to achieve quality of life and sustainable development.
The meeting comes as part of the state visit program of the President of the UAE to Germany, which includes talks and meetings with a number of German officials, with the aim of advancing bilateral relations and strengthening the partnership between the two countries in various fields.
Signing the Golden Book
During the visit, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed signed the “Golden Book” of the city of Berlin, the official record reserved for senior visitors to the German capital, including heads of state and government and dignitaries.
The meeting was attended by a number of members of the delegation accompanying the President of the United Arab Emirates, including Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council, Dr. Ahmed Mubarak bin Nawi Al Mazrouei, Head of the Office of the President of the State for Strategic Affairs, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade.
