Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump suggested that the United States might withhold assistance from the United Kingdom in any future military conflict over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.

He attributed this to a lack of British support for Washington’s positions in other regions.

Sensitive timing and a highly anticipated speech from Argentina

These controversial remarks come as Argentine President Javier Pellegrini

prepares to deliver a televised address to the nation late Thursday night.

In his speech, he will address what he calls the “sacred subject” of sovereignty over

the islands, which are a British Overseas Territory.

They also coincide with recent media reports that Washington is considering

revising its official neutrality regarding the Falkland Islands’ sovereignty.

This has been linked to London’s commitment to increasing its defense budget and spending.

Criticism of the lack of British support

In an interview with GB News, when asked directly whether he would

provide military support to Britain in the event of a new crisis, Trump recalled the historic Falklands War.

He stated that the British acted effectively on their own at the time,

but then emphasized the vast geographical distance of the region.

Serious questions arise about the future of the alliance

Trump directly criticized the British side, saying, “Don’t forget that you get a large percentage of your oil through the Strait of Hormuz,

and you weren’t there to help me… Your country wasn’t there to help me,”

in a clear reference to Washington’s previous demands for London’s support on Middle Eastern issues.

These statements raise serious questions about the future of the traditional strategic alliance

between Washington and London on sensitive regional and international matters.
