Cairo, Egypt – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy reiterated his categorical condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting the interests and territories of several Gulf Arab states.
He emphasized that these attacks constitute a dangerous escalation threatening the region’s security and stability.
He also explained that they undermine regional and international efforts aimed at consolidating de-escalation.
Condemnation of attacks on tankers and Gulf states
The Secretary-General condemned the attacks on the Saudi supertanker “Wadiyan”
and the Qatari liquefied natural gas carrier “Al-Rukayyat.”
He also noted the repeated Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain with missiles and drones.
He stressed that these hostile acts constitute a serious
violation of maritime security and economic interests.
He added that they further escalate tensions in the Gulf region.
Warning of the repercussions of escalation
Fahmy warned of the dangers of this escalation, noting that it comes at a highly sensitive time.
He explained that this is happening while regional and international efforts
are underway to restore stability and ensure maritime security in the region.
He pointed out that the continuation of such attacks could undermine these efforts.
Furthermore, he emphasized that this pushes the region once again toward open confrontation,
which would have serious repercussions for regional security and stability.
Arab solidarity with the Gulf states
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States reiterated the League’s full solidarity
with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He also affirmed his solidarity with all the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states,
clarifying that the security of the Arabian Gulf is an integral part of the Arab national security system.
He emphasized that any aggression targeting any of the Gulf states,
their vital interests, or their maritime routes affects shared Arab interests.
He further stressed that this necessitates a unified Arab stance to
protect the region’s security and stability in the face of escalating challenges.
