Doha, Qatar – The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced the conclusion of indirect talks with the United States held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The ministry confirmed that understandings were reached regarding the implementation of the memorandum of understanding.
These understandings include the establishment of a communication channel for reporting any violations.
It was also agreed that a portion of Iran’s frozen assets would be used to purchase goods according to Tehran’s needs.
Conclusion of technical talks
Iran’s deputy foreign minister said that the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington concluded in Doha.
He explained that the discussions focused on mechanisms
for implementing the provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed by both sides.
He added that the meetings were held through intermediaries.
Furthermore, the meetings took place within the framework of diplomatic efforts
aimed at monitoring the implementation of the agreement and reducing tensions.
Agreement on frozen assets
The Iranian official explained that an agreement was reached during the Doha meeting with the Qatari side
to use a portion of the $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets to purchase goods according to Iran’s needs.
He also announced an agreement to establish a dedicated communication channel
for reporting and discussing any violations of the memorandum of understanding.
This aims to address any disagreements that may arise during the implementation phase.
Continuation of the negotiation process
These developments come within the framework of the memorandum of understanding that entered into force in mid-June. The memorandum includes a cessation of military operations and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to navigation. In addition, it includes the release of a portion of Iran’s frozen assets, along with the continuation of negotiations to reach a final agreement. In the same context, US President Donald Trump affirmed that the talks with Iran are “going well.” He expressed optimism about making progress on the nuclear issue and reiterated his opposition to Tehran possessing nuclear weapons.
