Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli Chief of Staff stated that Hezbollah is going through what he described as a “very difficult” phase.
He confirmed that the Israeli army had successfully targeted a number of the group’s field commanders
during the ongoing military operations in southern Lebanon over the past two days.
Statements during a field tour
The Chief of Staff made these remarks during an inspection of Israeli army forces deployed in southern Lebanon.
There, he was briefed on the progress of military operations and developments on the northern front.
He affirmed that Israeli forces are continuing their operations according to plan.
He also indicated that the army is focusing on targeting Hezbollah’s command and military infrastructure.
Targeting middle management
The Israeli Chief of Staff explained that the recent operations resulted
in the elimination of “a significant level of mid-level leadership” within Hezbollah.
He considered these strikes a significant development in the ongoing confrontations.
He added that targeting field commanders aims to reduce the party’s ability
to manage operations and coordinate between combat units deployed in the areas of confrontation.
Continuation of military operations
The Israeli Chief of Staff’s remarks come amid a continuing military escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.
Large areas of southern Lebanon have witnessed airstrikes and attacks exchanged for weeks.
Observers believe that targeting military leaders is part of an Israeli strategy aimed at weakening Hezbollah’s operational capabilities.
Meanwhile, international efforts continue to contain the escalation and prevent the confrontation from spreading.
Developments on the ground remain poised for further escalation. Nevertheless, military operations and the exchange of accusationsbetween the two sides regarding responsibility for the deteriorating security situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border persist.
