Beirut, Lebanon – On Saturday, the Israeli army launched a series of intense and heavy airstrikes targeting various areas in southern Lebanon. This followed the issuance of urgent evacuation orders for residents of 20 towns and villages in the south. This represents a dangerous escalation on the ground, coinciding with regional and international diplomatic efforts.
Field operations and destruction in southern villages
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes and drones carried out widespread strikes that included the following:
Tyre District: The towns of Majdal Zoun, Srifa, Al-Tuwairi neighborhood, and the town of Ma’raka were targeted, where an air raid carried out by a drone resulted in the death of a martyr.

In the districts of Marjeyoun and Jezzine, the strikes targeted the villages of Khiam, Rihane (two strikes), Sajed, and Qatrani. A drone also attacked a van in the town of Kfarhouna.
وجاء هذا القصف العنيف بعد أن وجه المتحدث باسم الجيش الإسرائيلي إنذاراً عاجلاً لإخلاء 20 منطقة مأهولة، شملت: دير الزهراني، النميرية، الشرقية، الدوير، حاروف، حبوش، كفر جوز، زبدين، النبطية التحتا، النبطية الفوقا، كفر رمان، المحمودية، سجد، الريحان، عرمتى، كفرحونة، مليخ، اللويزة، جرجوع، وعربصاليم. في المقابل، أعلنت الجبهة الداخلية الإسرائيلية انطلاق صفارات الإنذار في بلدة المطلة الحدودية. جاء ذلك إثر الاشتباه بتسلل طائرة مسيّرة من الأراضي اللبنانية. في حين أوردت القناة 12 الإسرائيلية أنه تم رصد إطلاق 3 قذائف صاروخية من لبنان باتجاه مستوطنتي المطلة ومسكافعام.
Deterrence messages and the Israeli stance towards Iran
On the political front, the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot quoted Israeli sources confirming that Israel would respond decisively to any Iranian attack following a potential strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The sources also reiterated Israel’s rejection of what they termed “unifying the fronts.” They clarified that Israel would not hesitate to attack the southern suburbs if Hezbollah were to strike towns in northern Israel. Furthermore, they asserted that any potential Iranian response would constitute a true test of the existing understandings in the region. An informed source also revealed to the newspaper that information available to Israel indicates that the agreement currently being drafted between Washington and Tehran includes a clause for a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Diplomatic momentum and anticipated negotiations
تتجه الأنظار باهتمام نحو الجولة الخامسة من المفاوضات (اللبنانية – الإسرائيلية – الأميركية) المقرر عقدها في العاصمة واشنطن أواخر شهر حزيران الجاري. يتزامن هذا المسار مع حراك دبلوماسي متصاعد تقوده المملكة العربية السعودية في بيروت. إذ تتواصل الاتصالات المكثفة مع وصول السفير السعودي لمناقشة ملفات سياسية، أمنية، واقتصادية حساسة. وتأتي هذه التحركات الدبلوماسية وسط إشارات إلى محاولات متكررة وفاشلة لربط الساحة اللبنانية بالمسار الإيراني. في حين تتحدث المعطيات المتوافرة عن مساعٍ حثيثة لبلورة تفاهمات حاسمة تمهد الطريق لإرساء وقف إطلاق النار.
