New York, USA – Russia ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that Russian intelligence services are capable of accurately pinpointing the launch sites of drones.
He also asserted that NATO membership would not protect countries from any potential Russian retaliation.
In a press statement, the Russian ambassador explained that his country possesses the intelligence
and technical capabilities to track the launch sites of drones used in attacks.
He indicated that Russia would respond to any threat targeting its territory or interests “in the appropriate manner.”
Warning to NATO countries
The Russian ambassador added that NATO membership would not provide
a “protective shield” should any country engage in hostile acts against Russia.
He also affirmed that Moscow would respond to any attacks targeting its national security.
These statements come amid escalating tensions between Russia and Western countries,
stemming from the war in Ukraine and the exchange of accusations regarding
the use of drones and attacks on military and civilian infrastructure.
Continued tension between Moscow and the West
Relations between Russian and NATO and the United States remain strained
due to sharp disagreements over European security and NATO’s military expansion.
Reciprocal economic sanctions have also been in place since the start of the war in Ukraine.
NATO has not yet commented on these statements, while member states have repeatedly affirmed
that any further escalation will be met with robust defensive measures under Article 5 of the NATO treaty.
