Beirut, Lebanon – The head of the UNFPA office in Lebanon welcomed the ceasefire. She also stressed the importance of not overlooking the destruction of homes in the south of the country and emphasized the need to build on the truce to achieve lasting stability.

The director of the UN Population Fund told Cairo News that more than 600,000 women have been displaced since the start of the war, living in dire humanitarian conditions. She also explained that thousands of families are still suffering the consequences of displacement and homelessness.
Healthcare challenges
The head of the UN Population Fund confirmed that approximately 13,500 pregnant women face significant difficulties accessing healthcare services. She emphasized the urgent need to deliver medical care to women in all areas, particularly in the south. Despite the considerable challenges hindering access to many regions, she stressed the importance of providing care following the ceasefire.
Calls for urgent international support
She stressed the importance of respecting the work of UN agencies in southern Lebanon and adhering to international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians and medical personnel. She also called for the provision of necessary funding to support the most vulnerable groups.
She explained that the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is working to establish health centers that provide psychological and medical services. She expressed her hope that the ceasefire would pave the way for a lasting peace that would alleviate the suffering of civilians.
