  • Dismantling International Cells and Seizing Arsenals of Weapons and Incendiaries
  • Security Alert to Protect 46 Million Voters in the Upcoming Election

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian authorities have announced the successful foiling of a large-scale terrorist plot aimed at destabilizing the country and obstructing the general elections scheduled for next June. The coordinated security operation resulted in the arrest of 138 suspects across various regions, highlighting the state of maximum security alert to protect the democratic process. Accordingly, foiling a terrorist plot in Ethiopia serves as a powerful preemptive strike against extremist organizations seeking to exploit the political climate to execute sabotage agendas aimed at inciting ethnic and religious conflicts.

Dismantling International Cells and Seizing Arsenals of Weapons and Incendiaries

The Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) clarified that investigations revealed close links between the detainees and transnational terrorist organizations such as “Al-Shabaab” and “ISIS.” Obviously, some of the accused received intensive military training abroad with the aim of building internal recruitment networks and orchestrating attacks in the capital, Addis Ababa. As a result, security forces managed to seize large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and incendiary bombs, along with advanced communication equipment and foreign currencies intended to fund the logistical operations of these cells.

Security Alert to Protect 46 Million Voters in the Upcoming Election

These developments come as Ethiopia prepares to welcome more than 46 million voters to participate in the upcoming elections, placing security agencies with the challenge of securing polling stations and ensuring citizen safety. Certainly, preemptive operations will continue to pursue any remaining pockets of these extremist groups to ensure the smoothness of the electoral process. Accordingly, foiling a terrorist plot in Ethiopia remains the fundamental guarantee for completing the constitutional milestone, amid government calls for citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to report any suspicious activities.
