Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The King Fahd Causeway Authority announced in a post on the “X” platform the suspension of traffic on the bridge linking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain “as a precaution.” This move came amid escalating security concerns. There was no immediate announcement of the duration of the suspension. Likewise, there was no information on when traffic would resume.
The decision coincides with the final hours of the deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran. He threatened to target bridges, power stations and other civilian infrastructure if navigation is not fully opened in the Strait of Hormuz before the deadline he set on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, Tehran issued warnings of a broad response if those threats are carried out.
The comment also came after Iranian missile attacks targeted the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, according to international reports. This heightened fears of further attacks and prompted the suspension of traffic on the bridge linking with Bahrain as a precautionary measure.
The King Fahd Causeway is the only land crossing connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, stretching approximately 25 kilometers. Any disruption to traffic on this stretch has a direct impact on the movement of travelers and transit between the two countries. All eyes are on official updates from the relevant authorities regarding the duration of the suspension and the expected resumption of traffic. Meanwhile, the King Fahd Causeway Authority continues to provide monitoring services through its website. These services include average crossing times and live traffic updates.
