Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi met today in Riyadh with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger to discuss the escalating tensions in the region and their repercussions on regional and international security and stability. This comes amidst ongoing tensions.
The repercussions of closing the Strait of Hormuz
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the repercussions of closing the Strait of Hormuz. They emphasized the seriousness of such a move and the direct threat it poses to international shipping and global energy security, given the global markets’ reliance on this vital waterway.
Review of attacks and developments
The two sides also reviewed Iranian attacks on GCC countries. They exchanged views on the most prominent developments on the regional and international scenes. They also emphasized the need to strengthen coordination to confront current challenges.
A call to intensify international efforts
The Austrian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts to stop the attacks and maintain the security and stability of the region. She also affirmed her country’s support for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in confronting these challenges.
