Geneva, Switzerland – The Union for Human Rights Association participated in the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Which concluded on Tuesday, and was held in cooperation with organizations holding consultative status with the United Nations. This was achieved by submitting 8 written statements and 9 oral statements addressing human rights issues of international and regional dimensions.
The association’s interventions focused on a number of pivotal issues on the Council’s agenda. The most important of which was condemning the Iranian armed attacks against the UAE. Considering it a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, while emphasizing the fall of civilian casualties of multiple nationalities and calling for international accountability.
Suspension of Iran’s membership
It also called for the suspension of Iran’s membership in the Human Rights Council based on the findings of a fact-finding mission that demonstrated a systematic institutional pattern of violations. And the resulting regional extension that included targeting the UAE.
She warned of the danger of inflammatory and misleading media discourse directed against the UAE and its role in fueling violence and undermining stability. With a call to develop international standards of accountability.
It also stressed respect for the sovereignty of states and not using human rights as a tool for political interference. In the context of the systematic digital disinformation campaigns to which the UAE is exposed.
She touched on the push towards developing a binding international framework for digital rights. Including support for the proposal to launch a unified Arab declaration and move towards an international agreement to protect rights in the digital space.
It also highlighted the misuse of human rights discourse in the digital space and the targeting of human rights defenders. In light of systematic targeting patterns.

During its participation, the association highlighted the UAE’s experiences as practical models for promoting human rights. Emphasizing the UAE’s position as a leading and attractive destination for workers, in light of a work environment that guarantees social protection and equal opportunities.
She also reviewed the UAE’s role in enhancing digital child protection by issuing Federal Decree-Law No. 26 of 2025. Which establishes an integrated legal framework to ensure their safety in the digital environment.
She touched on the role of the UAE as an advanced model linking the fight against financial crimes with the protection of human rights. Through an integrated legislative and institutional framework and a national strategy based on prevention and capacity building.
A global model for climate action
She noted the UAE’s success in establishing itself as a global model for climate action and sustainable development by hosting COP28. Launching major financing initiatives, contributing to financing the Loss and Damage Fund, and committing to the energy transition and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
She pointed out that the UAE has adopted an integrated approach that enhances economic flexibility within a human rights framework. By developing labor and social protection legislation and strengthening labor market governance. She noted that the UAE has adopted a pioneering institutional approach to humanitarian work.
At the conclusion of its participation, the Assembly stressed that these interventions reflect an approach based on enhancing the credibility of the international human rights system and linking rights to security, stability and sustainable development. Stressing the importance of joint international action to confront emerging challenges, especially in the areas of media incitement, digital rights, and cross-border violations.
