Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned the Iranian attacks targeting GCC member states,
describing them as a flagrant violation of sovereignty and international law
and a direct threat to regional and international security and stability,
during a telephone call with the European Commission.
Gulf condemnation of the escalation
The Secretary-General of the Council, Jassem Mohammed Al-Badawi, stressed the need for an immediate cessation of all hostilities,
emphasizing that continued escalation would deepen tensions and threaten regional security.
He also called for concerted international efforts to contain the crisis,
ensuring the preservation of regional stability, maritime navigation safety, and global energy supplies.
A supportive European stance
For her part, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šujka expressed
the European Union’s rejection of all Iranian hostile acts towards the Gulf Cooperation Council countries,
stressing Brussels’ full support for the security and stability of the Gulf states in the face of current challenges.
A call for broad international coordination
Both sides stressed the importance of intensifying international coordination
during the current phase to contain the escalation and prevent the conflict from spreading,
while emphasizing the need to protect global economic interests,
especially with regard to energy security and market stability, in light of the escalating tensions in the region.
