Tel Aviv, Israel – Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir announced that the army’s Northern Command has eliminated more than 400 Hezbollah operatives since the start of the latest military operations.
This comes amid ongoing clashes on the northern front with Lebanon.
The military official explained that Israeli forces are continuing to conduct extensive military operations in the border region.
He also confirmed that these operations are part of what he described as ongoing efforts to weaken Hezbollah’s military capabilities. Furthermore, the aim is to prevent any potential threats to Israeli territory.
Intensive operations on the northern front
The Chief of Staff indicated that the Northern Command is conducting a series of ground and air operations. These operations target Hezbollah positions and infrastructure.
He added that the army is operating according to operational plans aimed at diminishing
the group’s fighting capabilities and pushing its fighters away from areas near the border.
He noted that the military operations include precision strikes against targets
deemed by the Israeli army to be of military importance.
He also emphasized the ongoing intelligence and field operations supporting these operations.
Continued border tensions
The border between Israel and Lebanon has witnessed escalating tensions for months. There have been exchanges of fire and attacks between the Israeli army and Hezbollah fighters.
This has resulted in casualties on both sides, as well as damage to border areas.
The clashes have also displaced thousands of residents from towns near the border in both northern Israel
and southern Lebanon, amid fears of a wider conflict.
Warnings of escalating conflict
Amid the ongoing escalation, international actors have warned of the risks of the border clashes turning into a wider regional conflict.
Meanwhile, they called for restraint and a return to diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions.
Several regional and international parties are closely monitoring developments on the Lebanese-Israeli front.
They are also making continuous efforts to contain the escalation and prevent the situation from spiraling into a full-blown confrontation.
