Paris, France – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the growing shift in the international community’s focus toward developments in the Middle East is not in Ukraine’s best interest. This comes as his country continues its war with Russia.
Speaking to students at Sciences Po in Paris, Zelenskyy explained that he understands the world’s current focus on the rapidly unfolding events in the Middle East. However, he pointed out that this shift in international attention is having a negative impact on Ukraine.
The impact of the conflict in the Middle East
The Ukrainian president stressed that a new war or escalating tensions in the Middle East would bring no benefit to Ukraine. He also explained that the international community’s focus on that crisis could lead to a decline in attention to the Ukrainian issue.
“There is nothing good for Ukraine in the ongoing war in the Middle East,” Zelensky said, adding that it is natural for the world’s attention to shift to that region. However, this is not in the interest of his country, which continues to face significant military and political challenges.
Concerns about declining international support
Zelensky’s statements reflect Kyiv’s concerns about a potential decline in international support for Ukraine amidst multiple global crises. This is particularly true given the escalating tensions in the Middle East and their far-reaching political, economic, and security implications.
Ukraine is striving to maintain its current level of international political and military support in the face of Russia. This comes at a time when global attention is increasingly focused on the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East.
