Doha, Qatar – Qatari Interior Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani affirmed that the State of Qatar has been keen to bolster its strategic food security reserves to cover needs for 18 months. He indicated that the reserves have not yet been utilized and that efforts are ongoing to support and strengthen them.
Food security and supply stability
The minister explained that additional supply lines have been opened to ensure the continuity of food supplies. He indicated that this guarantees coverage of all national needs under all circumstances. He affirmed that the measures taken give the country a superior ability to confront any future challenges that might affect food availability.
Water security and sustainability
Regarding water security, the minister emphasized that the situation is reassuring, and that Qatar has built an integrated water security system that includes enhancing strategic storage capacity. He stated that the current reserves are sufficient for four months of consumption. He added that the relevant authorities are working to develop these reserves and increase their capacity to ensure a continued and sustainable water supply.
Health preparedness and drug stocks
Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani emphasized the readiness of the healthcare sector, confirming the maintenance of a strategic stockpile of essential medicines sufficient for nine months. He added that there are also enough medical supplies to last a full year, ensuring the continuity of healthcare services without any disruption to the community.
These measures reflect Qatar’s approach to strengthening national preparedness and further enhancing its food, water, and health security capabilities. This ensures the country’s stability and its ability to effectively and efficiently address emerging challenges.
