Doha, Qatar – Explosions rocked the Qatari capital, Doha, early Saturday morning. This marked a significant security development. It coincided with precautionary measures announced by the Qatari Ministry of Interior. Among these was the evacuation of several specific areas to ensure public safety.
AFP reported that its journalists in Doha heard the explosions. One of them spotted interceptor jets in the skies over the capital’s center engaging two projectiles.
Shortly before the attack, Voice Of Emirates reported a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Interior saying it had evacuated several areas as a temporary precaution to protect public safety. Furthermore, the ministry said the measure would stay in effect until the danger subsided.
Precautionary measures have been extended to the Msheireb district in central Doha. Several residents there received urgent alerts on their mobile phones. These alerts urged them to evacuate the area immediately and head to the nearest safe location. This is part of the approved preventative measures.
Reuters reported that Qatari authorities evacuated parts of the Msheireb district in Doha. This district houses government offices, a Google headquarters, and parts of Education City. Education City includes branches of six American universities.
These developments come amid escalating regional tensions. Iran continues its attacks on Gulf states in retaliation for US and Israeli attacks against it.
