Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced the extension of the closure of Iraqi airspace to civilian air traffic for an additional 72 hours. This comes amid rapidly evolving security developments in the region and escalating military tensions in the Middle East.
Authorities explained that the extension is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and aircrews. This is particularly important given ongoing concerns about the impact of the security situation on air traffic in regional airspace.
The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the decision includes suspending all incoming and outgoing flights, as well as flights transiting Iraqi airspace, during the specified period. This comes with close and continuous monitoring of developments on the ground before any decision is made regarding reopening the airspace.
The authorities also called on airlines and passengers to follow official statements issued by the relevant authorities. They indicated that the resumption of air traffic will be subject to a comprehensive assessment of the security situation in the region.
This decision comes at a time when the Middle East region is witnessing escalating tensions that have directly affected air traffic and air navigation. This has prompted a number of countries to take similar measures to ensure the safety of civil aviation.
