The number of victims is rising.
Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser Eddine said the death toll had reached 634, including 91 children and 47 women, with more than 1,500 others injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting various parts of the country since the latest round of fighting began.
He explained that rescue and civil defense teams were continuing rescue operations and evacuating the injured from the affected areas, as airstrikes continued to target several Lebanese regions.
More than 800,000 displaced people
For her part, Minister of Social Affairs Hanin al-Sayed announced that the number of officially registered internally displaced persons (IDPs) due to the war has risen to approximately 816,000, including 126,000 currently residing in shelters prepared to receive those affected.
She noted that government agencies and humanitarian organizations are working to provide basic assistance to the IDPs, amid concerns that the humanitarian crisis will worsen as military operations continue.
New airstrikes and international concern
In a related development, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that at least eight people were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Tibnin in the Bint Jbeil district of southern Lebanon. The ministry stated that the strike hit a building housing displaced families.
Meanwhile, more than 20 countries, during a session at the United Nations, expressed their concern about the renewed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, calling for an end to attacks on civilian infrastructure and densely populated areas, and for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
These countries also condemned Hezbollah’s decision to join Iranian attacks against Israel, arguing that this has dragged Lebanon into a war neither the state institutions nor the Lebanese people desire.
