Tehran, Iran – In a new escalation reflecting the rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a direct challenge to the United States and President Donald Trump, asserting that Iran will not back down in the face of military or political pressure. Meanwhile, Washington launched an urgent investigation into reports of a school being bombed inside Iranian territory during recent military operations.
A statement issued by the IRGC declared that Iran “will not allow new equations to be imposed by force.” The statement emphasized that the response to any aggression will come at “the appropriate time and place.” It added that Iranian forces are at full readiness. Furthermore, it asserted that any US or Israeli military action will be met with a “harsh and painful” response.
In response, the United States announced the opening of a formal investigation into the bombing of a school inside Iran. This followed reports and images circulating on media outlets and social media platforms indicating that an educational building sustained damage from an airstrike during the recent clashes.
US officials confirmed that the investigation aims to determine the circumstances of the incident. They also clarified that they want to ascertain whether the strike targeted a military site near the school, or whether the building was damaged by falling shrapnel or explosions in its vicinity.
These developments come amid escalating indirect military confrontations between Iran and Israel. Recently, the scope of these confrontations has widened to include reciprocal strikes on military installations and energy infrastructure. This has also raised international concerns about the region sliding into a wider conflict.
Observers believe that the school incident could increase political pressure on Washington if civilian casualties are confirmed, especially given the growing international calls to avoid targeting civilian infrastructure during military operations.
Analysts warn that any incident resulting in civilian casualties could ignite a new wave of escalation. It could also complicate the efforts of various regional and international actors to contain the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
