Doha, Qatar – The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that the armed forces’ air defenses successfully intercepted five ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward the country’s territory. It confirmed that no casualties or material damage resulted from the attack.
Details of the attack and missile interception
The Ministry of Defense explained in a statement that the attack occurred Tuesday afternoon. Air defense systems detected the five missiles immediately after launch and engaged and completely destroyed them before they reached their targets. The statement also affirmed that the armed forces dealt with the threat swiftly and efficiently, as part of defensive measures to protect national security and the safety of vital installations.
Warning of global economic repercussions
In the same vein, Qatar warned of the global economic repercussions of attacks targeting energy infrastructure in the Middle East. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari stated that Iranian attacks on civilian infrastructure in Qatar are ongoing. He also noted that targeting energy facilities sets a dangerous precedent that could impact the global economy and energy markets.
Qatar rejects justifications for the attacks
For his part, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani affirmed that the justifications offered by Iran to explain the attacks on Qatar and other countries are completely unacceptable. He added that the armed forces and security services demonstrated a high level of professionalism in dealing with the threats. He emphasized that Doha built its relations with Tehran on the basis of good neighborliness and did not anticipate being subjected to such attacks.
