Ankara, Turkey – Turkish authorities announced they shot down an Iranian missile after it entered the country’s airspace. The incident triggered a security alert, and reports indicated that missile debris fell in the city of Gaziantep, near the Syrian border.
Limited material damage
Security sources explained that Turkish air defense systems detected the missile as soon as it approached Turkish airspace. It was quickly engaged and shot down before reaching any targets within Turkish territory.
The sources indicated that fragments of the missile fell in various areas of Gaziantep, causing minor property damage. No casualties have been reported so far.
Sites where shrapnel fell
Immediately after the incident, civil defense and emergency teams rushed to the sites where the shrapnel landed. A security cordon was established around the affected areas, and authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
The incident comes amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East and the widening confrontation between Iran and Israel. This raises growing concerns about the conflict spilling over into other countries in the region.
The Turkish government confirmed that the armed forces are continuing to monitor the airspace around the clock. It also stressed that it will not compromise on protecting Turkish sovereignty and will take all necessary measures to ensure the country’s security.
