Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates revealed on Saturday serious details concerning the recruitment of Jordanian citizens by foreign entities for the purpose of “illegal recruitment.” The ministry confirmed that it is following with grave concern the killing of two of its citizens after they were recruited to fight in the ranks of the Russian army.
Legal action and efforts to recover the bodies
The Ministry, through its Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate, affirmed that it is exerting intensive efforts with relevant authorities to repatriate the bodies of citizens who died as a result of this recruitment. In an official statement, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Majali, reiterated that the recruitment of Jordanians to fight in foreign armies constitutes a “clear violation of Jordanian and international law.” Furthermore, it directly endangers the lives of citizens.
A firm message to Moscow and a warning about “internet networks”
Amman sent a strong diplomatic message to Russian authorities, demanding an immediate halt to the recruitment of Jordanians. It also demanded the termination of the recruitment of any Jordanian citizen previously enlisted in the Russian army. Ambassador Majali explained that the Kingdom would take all available legal and diplomatic measures to stop this practice and protect its citizens.
Ambassador Majali warned of suspicious entities operating online to lure and deceive young Jordanians into joining foreign conflicts. The Ministry urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious recruitment attempts, warning against engaging with them as they pose a threat to life and violate national laws.
National measures to protect citizens
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it continues to coordinate with relevant national institutions to pursue these entities and take the necessary measures to stop these practices. These developments come at a sensitive time, as the region and the world witness military turmoil.
Consequently, this compels the Jordanian state to tighten its oversight to protect its citizens from involvement in conflicts that do not represent the Kingdom’s principles or laws.
