Washington, DC – The US State Department announced the return of approximately 20,000 American citizens from Middle Eastern countries in recent days as part of evacuation operations and emergency flights organized amid escalating security tensions in the region.
The State Department explained in a statement carried by international media outlets that the returns were facilitated through commercial and private flights, in addition to direct coordination with several governments in the region, to ensure the safe and orderly departure of American citizens.
The State Department confirmed that U.S. embassies and consulates in several Middle Eastern countries have intensified their efforts in recent days to provide consular support to citizens and facilitate travel and departure procedures, particularly in light of the rapidly escalating military developments in the region.
The statement added that Washington continues to closely monitor the situation on the ground, urging its citizens in areas of tension to adhere to the instructions of U.S. embassies and follow the security warnings issued periodically.
These actions come at a time when the region is witnessing an unprecedented escalation of military confrontations and exchanges of fire, prompting many countries to review their evacuation plans and issue travel warnings to their citizens.
