Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistani military announced today the destruction of 73 what it described as “hostile” sites along the border with Afghanistan. The large-scale military operation comes amid escalating security tensions between the two countries in recent weeks.
An official statement explained that the strikes targeted locations suspected of being used to launch cross-border attacks. The statement added that the operation was in response to “armed movements and direct threats” against security posts inside Pakistani territory, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The statement indicated that the operations were carried out with high precision and in coordination with intelligence agencies. It also stressed that the objective was “to protect national sovereignty and prevent any security breaches.” At the same time, the border regions are witnessing intensified activity by armed groups.
These developments come amid ongoing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul. The two sides have exchanged accusations regarding the harboring of militants who carry out cross-border attacks. Regional calls for restraint and prioritizing diplomatic solutions are also escalating.
Observers believe that this operation may represent a decisive message from Pakistan regarding the security of its borders. At the same time, it presents relations with Afghanistan with a new test, especially given the sensitivity and long-standing complexity of the security situation.
