Islamabad, Pakistan – Qasim and Sulaiman, sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, have expressed deep concern over their father’s deteriorating health while imprisoned in Pakistan. They have appealed to authorities to allow them to visit him after more than two years of incarceration. In an interview with Reuters in London, the sons emphasized that their father’s health is in danger. In particular, he lost a significant portion of his vision in his right eye while incarcerated.
Medical follow-up and partial improvement
Khan’s lawyer indicated that a medical committee had observed a partial improvement in his eye condition after treatment for the swelling. However, his sons expressed doubt about the accuracy of the medical report. In addition, they emphasized the need to transfer their father to a suitable medical facility. There, he could meet with his doctors and receive better monitoring of his health.
The sons’ move to the Pakistani Supreme Court to pursue their father’s medical rights represents a significant shift. The court has requested details of his treatment and confirmation that necessary care is being provided within the prison. Authorities, meanwhile, deny any negligence and maintain that necessary medical procedures are being carried out.
legal and political context
Imran Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 after being convicted, along with members of his party, on charges the opposition considers politically motivated. He also faces other charges related to gifts to the state and an illegal marriage. Some of these cases have been suspended or dismissed. Khan denies any wrongdoing.
Qasim, 26, and Sulaiman, 29, said their father usually avoids discussing his health. However, during their last phone call, he expressed his disappointment at being denied eye treatment for several months. The sons stressed the need for them to be allowed to visit him. This would ensure he receives proper medical care and attention.
