Cairo, Egypt – EgyptAir issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding reports circulating on news websites and social media platforms regarding the emergency landing of one of its aircraft at Istanbul International Airport. The airline confirmed that the incident was simply a routine procedure in accordance with international safety standards.
Details of the incident
The company explained that on February 6, while its Airbus A320neo flight was returning from Istanbul Airport to Cairo International Airport, the crew received an automated alert. This alert indicated the possibility of a smoke source on board the aircraft.
Immediate response and safety standards
In accordance with international standards for achieving the highest levels of safety and security, the flight crew decided to return and land at Istanbul Airport as a precautionary measure. This decision was made to allow time to ascertain the cause of the alert and to ensure the safety of the passengers.
Technical inspection results
EgyptAir confirmed that its specialized technical teams immediately began inspections upon the aircraft’s landing. The results showed no actual source of smoke or any malfunction affecting the aircraft’s safety. The aircraft’s operational efficiency was also confirmed at 100%. Therefore, the flight resumed its journey to Cairo safely.
