Catalonia, Spain – Catalunya Radio reported today that a Turkish Airlines plane en route from Istanbul to Barcelona made an emergency landing at El Prat Airport after receiving a bomb threat.

Tight security measures at the airport

The Mossos d’Esquadra police explained that the plane made an emergency landing on the temporary runway usually used at night, around 11:00 AM. It was then directed to an isolated area near the Iberia aircraft hangar. The 148 passengers and seven crew members were disembarked for screening.

A thorough inspection of the aircraft and passengers

Security teams began inspecting luggage and passengers, in accordance with established safety protocols. This followed the pilot’s notification of the threat to French air traffic controllers at 10:00 AM. The inspection revealed no explosive materials on board flight TK1853.

Turkish Airlines statement

The company confirmed in an official statement that the aircraft made an emergency landing and a security alert was immediately declared upon arrival. It was directed to an isolated area to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The company clarified that all security procedures were successfully completed and any danger was averted.
