Islamabad, Pakistan – The death toll from a suicide bombing that targeted a mosque in Pakistan during Friday prayers has risen to 15, with more than 80 injured, in a bloody attack that has revived fears of escalating terrorist activity and the targeting of places of worship in the country.

Details of the attack

According to security sources, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the mosque at a time when worshippers were gathered, resulting in a large number of casualties, both dead and wounded, amidst panic and chaos in the surrounding area. Security forces and ambulance teams rushed to the scene to transport the injured and secure the area.

Widespread security alert

Pakistani authorities announced they had raised the alert level and imposed a security cordon around the bombing site, while launching extensive investigations to uncover the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible, especially given the country’s history with attacks by extremist groups.

Condemnations and warnings

Officials strongly condemned the attack, stressing that targeting worshippers during religious rites represents a dangerous escalation, while security agencies warned of the possibility of further attacks, calling on citizens to be vigilant and cooperate with the relevant authorities.
