Tel Aviv, Israel – Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the head of the Civil Aviation Authority issued a formal warning to foreign airlines operating at Ben Gurion Airport, cautioning them about a potential “sensitive security period” over the weekend.
This warning stems from security assessments indicating possible risks that could affect air traffic.
According to the channel, the Civil Aviation Authority stressed in its messages to international airlines the need to raise operational
and security readiness levels and take necessary precautions in anticipation of any emergencies,
including the possibility of temporary airspace closures or flight rerouting should circumstances require it.
Potential threats
The channel quoted informed sources as saying that the warning comes against the backdrop of evolving security assessments.
The channel did not disclose the nature or timing of the potential threats, simply stating that the coming period requires
a high degree of caution and coordination between relevant authorities and airlines.
The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed, according to the channel, that it is in constant coordination with security agencies
and the Airports Authority to ensure the safety of passengers and aircrews and to maintain the regularity of air traffic as much as possible.
It emphasized that any exceptional decisions will be made according to developments in the security situation.
Alternative options
Ben Gurion Airport is Israel’s main international airport and experiences heavy traffic of foreign flights,
making any security warnings closely monitored by international airlines,
which often reassess their schedules and operational plans in light of such alerts.
In this context, Channel 12 indicated that some airlines may consider alternative options,
including adjusting flight times or temporarily reducing the number of flights,
pending a clearer picture of the security situation in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities confirmed that the airspace remains open and that work is underway to ensure the highest levels of safety.
