Damascus, Syria – Syrian authorities announced a 15-day extension of the ceasefire to facilitate the evacuation of ISIS prisoners to Iraq,
a move considered controversial by observers on both security and political levels.
Damascus stated that the extension aims to ensure the safe transfer of the detainees and prevent any armed clashes during the operation,
amidst direct coordination with Baghdad to implement strict security monitoring mechanisms.
This move comes amid international concerns about the reintegration of ISIS elements,
while Syrian and Iraqi officials stress the need for stringent measures to prevent any threat to regional security.
This initiative reflects a rare attempt to unify efforts between Syria and Iraq in managing the terrorism issue,
with international parties closely monitoring the operation’s future and its success in reducing risks.
