Benghazi, Libya – The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Saddam Haftar, received a high-level American delegation at his office in the General Command headquarters in Benghazi, eastern Libya, on Sunday.
The delegation was headed by Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump,
and included the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Brent.
According to the media office, the meeting addressed the latest political developments in Libya,
as well as other regional and international developments of mutual interest.
Politics, security, and prospects for cooperation
The media office explained that the talks between Saddam Haftar
and Mosaad Boulos focused on ways to develop cooperation
between Libya and the United States, serving the common interests of both countries,
particularly in the political and security spheres.
The two sides also discussed supporting international efforts aimed
at ending the political crisis in Libya and working towards achieving sustainable stability,
in addition to continuing discussions related to building strong and unified military
and security institutions capable of maintaining security and stability in the country.
Growing US diplomatic momentum
This visit comes amidst a growing US diplomatic push in Libya, with Massad Boulos participating in the “Libya Energy and Economic Summit 2026.”
This reflects the new US vision that combines support for political stability with expanding economic partnerships, particularly in the energy sector.
These discussions are also part of a series of meetings the US delegation is holding
with various Libyan parties, aiming to bridge differences and advance the democratic process,
in parallel with preparations for the “Flintlock 2026” military exercises, which Libya is preparing to host.
