Hargeisa, Somaliland – Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar arrived in the capital Hargeisa today, marking the first official visit by a high-ranking Israeli official. The visit follows the historic announcement last December of Israel’s recognition of the Republic of Somaliland.
Security alert and international attention
The Israeli delegation arrived at Hargeisa International Airport amid unprecedented and tight security measures. These measures reflect the strategic importance of this visit, which marks the first recognition of Somaliland’s sovereignty by a UN member state.
Yusuf Gabobe: “A historic moment for the Republic of Somaliland”
Commenting on the event, prominent Somaliland political researcher and journalist Yusuf Gabube said on the X platform: “The presence of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar in Hargeisa represents a historic moment. It is also a strong step forward for Somaliland.”
Gabobe added that the visit of the delegation, which recently arrived in the capital, will directly contribute to “strengthening political and strategic cooperation aimed at the Republic of Somaliland.” This opens new horizons for international recognition, economic growth, and security.
Dimensions of the visit
This move aims to strengthen the partnership between the two sides. Discussions are expected to cover cooperation in maritime security and infrastructure development, as well as enhancing diplomatic ties in the vital Horn of Africa region.
