Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that its armed forces had successfully eliminated 15 members of the terrorist group “Al-Shabaab” and arrested eight others during a special military operation in the Jilib region in the south of the country.
Details of the qualitative operation
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the operation targeted the group’s strongholds in the area, inflicting casualties and material losses on the organization.
Somali forces also arrested eight individuals who are currently under investigation. The Jilib area is considered a strategic stronghold for the al-Qaeda-linked group.
Commitment to eradicating terrorism
In its statement, the Ministry of Defense reiterated the Somali leadership’s firm commitment to continuing military operations until the complete elimination of the “terrorist threat” posed by the Al-Shabaab movement, and the clearing of all areas from the organization’s pockets to ensure lasting peace and stability for the Somali people.
This operation comes as part of a comprehensive campaign launched by the Somali government in cooperation with international partners and local forces to reduce the capabilities of the armed movement that has been seeking to destabilize the country for years.
