Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli army announced Sunday evening that it had carried out an airstrike targeting a Hezbollah operative in the Jmeijmeh area of southern Lebanon. This comes as part of ongoing military operations along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
Footage circulating on social media showed a burning car. It was reported that the car was directly targeted during the Israeli airstrike. There is uncertainty and speculation surrounding the identity of the person inside. No official statement has yet been released detailing the target or their condition.
Israeli drone attack
For its part, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone launched an attack on a car traveling on the Ain al-Mazrab road. This road lies between the towns of Khirbet Selm and Jmeijmeh in the Bint Jbeil district. The agency added that initial reports indicate one person was injured in the attack. There has been no official confirmation regarding the number of casualties or the nature of the injuries.
In a related development, Lebanese sources reported that the sound of several powerful explosions was heard at dawn on Sunday in the “Al-Ma‘aqib” neighborhood of the border town of Houla. Reports said the explosions were the result of Israeli airstrikes carried out by unmanned aerial vehicles. Eyewitnesses indicated that the explosions may have been caused by an Israeli quadcopter drone. It dropped explosive devices on the area. This occurred alongside intensive Israeli aerial activity in the airspace.
Other areas in southern Lebanon also witnessed simultaneous security developments. Local reports noted the sound of explosions and the presence of reconnaissance aircraft. In addition, the launch of illumination flares over the skies of Shebaa heightened tensions in the border region.
Israeli airstrike
Earlier, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that three Lebanese citizens were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Khiam in the Marjayoun district on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has continued to conduct airstrikes and drone attacks against sites and targets linked to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. These operations have persisted since the announcement of a ceasefire in November 2024. According to Lebanese sources, the strikes have resulted in hundreds of casualties, including both fatalities and injuries, among the group’s ranks. Concerns are mounting over the possibility of a wider escalation along the southern front.
