Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesian authorities announced on Saturday that a Spanish family of four is missing after a tourist boat carrying 11 people sank in the waters of Bandar Island Strait near the popular tourist destination of Labuan Bajo.
Accident details
The Indonesian state news agency Antara reported that the boat capsized late last night.
This was after it was hit by huge waves that reached a height of 3 meters.
The port authorities of Al Jazeera stated that bad weather conditions
in the area led to disruption of navigation and the sudden capsizing of the boat.
Rescue operations in Indonesia
Rescue teams successfully rescued 7 people who were on board the boat, including two Spanish tourists.
The boat’s crew consisted of 4 people, and a tour guide was accompanying the group.
While search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the area
to find the four missing members of the Spanish family,
This comes amid fears that deteriorating weather conditions could hinder the efforts of relief teams.
Incident area
The “Labuan Bajo” area is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Indonesia,
Tourists flock to it to visit Komodo National Park.
However, navigation in the Bandar Strait sometimes experiences sharp fluctuations in waves and monsoon winds.
