Cairo, Egypt – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed strict disciplinary sanctions on Moroccan club FAR Rabat. This comes in the wake of events that occurred during their match against Egyptian club Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.
The match between Al-Ahly and the Royal Army, which took place on November 28 as part of the tournament, witnessed acts of fan violence by supporters of the Moroccan team.
Raja Casablanca fans threw bottles and sharp objects at Al Ahly players, resulting in Egyptian player Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” sustaining a head injury.
Following these events, Al-Ahly Club submitted an official memorandum to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requesting that the necessary measures be taken.
Moroccan club FAR Rabat announced today that it has been sanctioned with a two-match stadium ban for its fans. A fine of $100,000 was also imposed.
The statement from the Royal Army Club read as follows:
“The Royal Army Club regrets to inform its fans that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued its disciplinary decisions. These decisions come in the wake of the events that took place during the match between our club and Al Ahly of Egypt on November 28, 2025, in the African Champions League”.
The Disciplinary Committee of the Union decided during its meeting held on December 17, 2025, the following:
1- The Royal Army Club was found to have violated Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. It also violated Article 32 of the Safety and Security Regulations, due to inappropriate behavior by the club’s fans that undermined the principles of sportsmanship and the integrity of the competition.
2- Imposing a two-match ban on the Royal Army Club in its upcoming matches as the host within the African club competitions.
3- Financial penalties:
US$20,000 for the use of laser devices.
$15,000 USD for throwing water bottles.
$15,000 fine for ball boys bringing balls onto the field during play. This violates the principles of sportsmanship and fair competition.
$50,000 USD for throwing a dangerous object (made of iron) that poses a risk to the safety of players and referees during a match.
4. Total amount and payment deadline: The total amount of the fines, US$100,000, must be paid within 60 days of the date of notification of this decision.
It is worth noting that Al-Ahly had drawn against the Moroccan Royal Army with a score of (1-1), within the competitions of the second round of the African Champions League.
