Discover the latest military developments in Cambodia as the conflict with Thailand escalates and claims arise regarding airstrikes.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defense stated in an official statement that a Thai F-16 fighter jet dropped two aerial bombs on the municipality of Poept. This occurred at 11:06 a.m. local time. The statement emphasized that the city is a major land crossing point between Cambodia and Thailand, and is home to numerous tourist resorts and casinos.
Thai authorities have not yet commented on the Cambodian accusation. The border clashes entered their twelfth day, amid escalating tensions between the two sides over longstanding border disputes.
According to the latest official figures, the clashes have resulted in the deaths of at least 38 people, including 21 on the Thai side and 17 on the Cambodian side. Approximately 800,000 civilians from both countries have also been displaced and forced to evacuate areas near the border.
In a related development, the Thai Foreign Ministry announced that between 5,000 and 6,000 of its citizens remain stranded in Poipet. This comes after Cambodia suspended border crossings last Saturday, further complicating the humanitarian and logistical situation in the region.
