  • Wales… and the risk of flooding

Cardiff, Wales – Authorities in Wales have announced widespread transport disruptions and scattered flooding as a result of heavy rainfall over the past few hours.

The Meteorological Authority issued multiple warnings,

including an orange warning indicating a “potential danger to life”.

North, central and southern Wales are experiencing increasing flooding

following heavy rains brought on by storms Bram and Claudia.

With particular warnings in the south of the country about the risk of potentially large floods.

Flood warnings

Official flood warnings were activated at two locations, in addition to 34 flood alerts across the country.

Heavy rains led to the suspension of train services between Llandudno Junction and Blenau Ffestiniog,

and the closure of major roads such as the A40 and A487 due to rainwater accumulation.

With calls to drive with extreme caution or avoid damaged roads.

Rescue teams also intervened in a number of incidents,

including rescuing a person from his car trapped by floodwaters in Neath Port Tallot.

In the village of Pontargothi, homes were surrounded by floodwaters,

while falling trees and debris blocked bridges.

Neighboring properties were affected, resulting in significant damage to the local community.

Wales… and the risk of flooding

Residents noted that this year is exceptional in terms of the intensity of the rainfall.

The slow removal of debris increases the risk of water accumulation and further flooding.

Orange warnings cover most of South Wales from Pembrokeshire to Newport until 21:00 pm today,

Yellow warnings also cover other areas such as Cardiff, Carmarthenshire and Merthyr Tydville.

With the possibility of heavy rainfall continuing over the next two days,

This increases the risk of flooding to homes, streets, and infrastructure.
