Damascus, Syria – Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani welcomed the decision by the US House of Representatives to lift sanctions imposed on Syria under the “Caesar Act,” describing the achievement as “historic.”
In a post on the (X) platform, Al-Shaibani affirmed that the US House of Representatives’ adoption of the repeal of the law is “a victory for the right and for the steadfastness of the Syrians,” and an embodiment of the success of “Syrian diplomacy, which worked with patience and faith to alleviate suffering and reopen the doors of hope.”
Minister Al-Shaibani added that the Syrian Arab Republic extends its “thanks to the US House of Representatives and to the United States” for this step, which he described as “responsible” and reflecting “a growing awareness of the importance of supporting Syria in its current stage.”
He also expressed his gratitude to all the countries that supported the Syrian position, and to the Syrians who contributed to achieving this “great accomplishment”.
It is worth noting that the US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly today in favor of repealing the “Caesar Act” as part of a provision included in the Department of Defense’s 2026 budget law.
