Beijing, China – French President Emmanuel Macron, during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday, said that France and China must “overcome their differences.” His aim was to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, a direct message reflecting Paris’s efforts to reset relations with Beijing amid escalating international tensions.
Macron stressed that current international circumstances necessitate a dialogue-based approach. Therefore, shared interests must prevail, particularly on issues such as trade, climate, and the Ukrainian crisis. He also emphasized that cooperation with China and Russia remains crucial for supporting any de-escalation efforts.
For his part, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his country’s desire to build a “more stable” relationship with France. He called for increased mutual investment and expanded cooperation.
Macron’s visit comes at a sensitive time, as the international community closely monitors Beijing’s stance on global conflicts, particularly the war in Ukraine and its role in international power dynamics.
