Hong Kong, China – A number of residents of the Wang Fook Court complex in Hong Kong have returned to the only building remaining after last week’s deadly fire,

in order to retrieve some of their personal belongings.

This comes as authorities continue their criminal investigations

into the causes of the disaster.

This scene was accompanied by a gathering of citizens near the burning building

to offer condolences and lay flowers in mourning for the victims.

According to local authorities, this is the only residential building that remained standing

from the complex after the fire, which resulted in significant human and material losses.

This sparked outrage and calls for a review of safety procedures in older buildings.

Initial investigations indicated the possibility of criminal activity.

Meanwhile, forensic and evidence-examination teams continue their work

to determine the cause of the fire and whether it was due to negligence or a deliberate act.

Strict regulatory procedures

The footage showed residents returning in small groups, amid strict regulatory measures.

This was to allow them to enter the building, which was surrounded by rubble and rising smoke,

to retrieve what remained of papers, documents, and personal memories.

Residents were moved to and from the building under the supervision of security

and civil defense teams to ensure their safety.

In the vicinity of the complex, dozens of citizens placed candles

and roses on nearby sidewalks, expressing their solidarity with the victims’ families.

Meanwhile, calls have grown from activists and parliamentarians

to review building standards and strengthen emergency plans in densely populated neighborhoods.

Providing alternative housing and compensation

The Hong Kong government, according to Reuters, confirmed that

it will announce the results of the investigations as soon as they are completed.

The necessary measures will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

She also promised to provide support to those affected,

including providing alternative housing

and appropriate compensation for families who lost their homes.

This fire is considered one of the worst incidents Hong Kong has witnessed in recent years.

This has brought renewed attention to the dangers

of the deterioration of some old buildings.

The need to upgrade infrastructure and enhance public safety requirements.
